thumb_cin_cres_21 Here we go again on the quest for a cinnamon roll alternative...

This time giving the can crescent rolls a try.

Ingredients - Sugar (~1 cup), Cinnamon (~1 tbs), packaged crescent rolls, butter and  !/2 cupt chocolate chips (optional)

cin_cres_00

Combine the sugar and cinnamon and give a good mix-up.

cin_cres_01

Layout the crescent rolls just like the package calls for.

cin_cres_02

Mmmh, that's good looking.

cin_cres_03

Melt about 3 tbs of butter.

cin_cres_04

Then spread out over the crescent roll dough.

cin_cres_05

Spread out the cinnamon / sugar mix.

cin_cres_06

Make sure that they are coated nice and even.

cin_cres_07

Get your 1/2 cup of chocolate chips ready.

cin_cres_08

Then spread the chips out across all of the pieces.

cin_cres_09

Just about good enough to eat like it is.

cin_cres_10

Roll them up and place on a pan.

cin_cres_11

Lookey there... a chip sticking out.

cin_cres_12

Pretty, pretty, pretty.

cin_cres_13

I went ahead and tried sprinkling some of the remaining sugar / cinnamon mixture across the tops.  It worked out OK, but this is optional.

cin_cres_14

See... all decorated up and ready to go.

cin_cres_15

Bake according to the crescent roll package instructions... and they come out looking like this.

cin_cres_16

Doesn't that chocolate chip just look smashing?

cin_cres_17

More close-ups...

cin_cres_18

Look, a chip got out and was smashed... poor chip.

cin_cres_19

OK, just a little extreme with the food graphics... but I couldn't resist the lined shadows from the blind.

cin_cres_20

Once cooled some, get them off the pan and on a plate ready to eat.

cin_cres_21

Maybe not the prettiest in the bunch... but I do take flattering phots.

cin_cres_22

Overall, these turned out pretty good and would be worth making them again.  I'd suggest keeping with the cinnamon and brown sugar mix as the white sugar used here just didn't quite get the right gooeiness.

We'll keep experimenting until we get it just right.
